CIMED Reseach Day and Koster Lecture 2014

CIMED Research Day and Joseph “Bo” Koster Memorial Lecture and Reception, June 12, 2014

Thanks to all participants in the CIMED Research Day held in conjunction with the Koster Memorial Lecture and Reception on the afternoon of June 12th in the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center.

39 posters were presented on topics from fundamental ion channel biochemistry and biophysics to excitability diseases in humans. The poster session ran from 2:00-4:00 pm in the FLTC Atrium and was followed by the 5th Annual Koster Memorial Lecture (“TRP channels of the pain pathway: connecting physiology to atomic structure”) in Connor auditorium, presented by Dr. David Julius from University of California at San Francisco.

The posters were judged by Drs. Brett, Hanson, Rentschler, Steinbach, Mercer and Yuan and three prizes of $100 each were presented to the best poster in each of three categories:

Pre-Doctoral – Zeynup Yurtsever  Structural and Biochemical Studies of CLCA1:  A Novel Mechanism of CaCC Activation by a Secreted Protein

Post-Doctoral – Monali Prabagaran, Ph.D.A double cross talk between Alpha-2-macroglobulin and BKCa: A novel immuno modulation of human myometrial smooth muscle cell activity.

Translational – Mareen Thomas, M.D.  Sulfonylureas in Type 1 Diabetes
